*shoulder shrug* The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan

⭐️⭐️⭐️3 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️

I didn’t hate this book, I just didn’t practically enjoy it. I normally finish a book within a day or two days if I’m busy. It may even push three days if I have to work, because I work really, really, really long hours. This book took five days and I only worked two of those. It just didn’t hold my attention.

The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan is the first book of the Game On Series. As a fan of her VIP Series, I thought I should check the Game On Series out as well. You can find my review of The VIP Series here. . .review for book one and review for book two.

I’m going to be honest, this review is going to be pretty messy.

Let’s see what the author has to say about her book. . .

Synopsis

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she’s shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It’s a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on

*************************************************************

I’m going to run down a few of the reasons of why this book didn’t work for me.

  1. The insta-love within the first 3% of the book was unbelievable.
  2. The term “mine” was overly used.
  3. It was too cliche.
  4. There was a lack of character develop for the first 60% of the book.
  5. The main female character, Anna, picked about every part of her body that made her beautiful – Her big curly hair, which is what most of the people in my culture have. Her ass because is wasn’t flat and had some curves to it. Again, something most of the women in my culture possess. Shit, I wish I had a phat ass every day of my life.
  6. The male character, Drew, was unrealistic. He is what females would want a male act like vs. what a male is really like in person. He has too many female ways for me to see him as anything more than a name in a book.

With all that being said, I don’t think this book was terrible but something was missing.

Anna was a very intelligent 22 or 23 year old, I can’t remember, but she has daddy issues.  Don’t we all! 🙂 I know do!!! Her daddy issues prevents her from getting too close to anyone.

Drew is the star quarterback of their college and when he walks around people move out of his way. Not because he wants them to, his a very humble man, they just do because they idolize him.

Of course, Anna isn’t able to give 100% of herself to him out of fear of her heart breaking. Drew is determined to change her mind no matter how long it takes.

He eventually does and they all live happily ever after.

I started this review ready to state more of my opinion but then I got bored writing this, so I’m going to end it with this. . .This book did nothing for me and most likely I won’t even remember it within a week. I had to go back to my notes just refresh my memory and I just finished it last night.

It’s a good filler book. Too bad it’s not on Kindle Unlimited. If the series was available on KU I might. . .might read the other books in the series but since it’s not, I’m going to chop this series up to a loss.

Do I recommend this book? Most likely not because I won’t remember it to recommend it.

Will I read more books by this author?Yes, I really enjoyed the VIP Series and she may start a different series I would enjoy as well. As for the Game On Series, no, I won’t be reading anymore.

I don’t think this review was too messy because I didn’t really give it my all.

TTYL, lovers. . .

Stalk all things messy. . .

Hey there! I'm Danielle! I just a girl who loves books. I love books so much that I talk about the stories like they are real. Who knows? Maybe, they are real to me. I do love the book world, it's way better than reality. . .sometimes. . .because. . .I'm also a proud mama bear, wife, and mother!
