Let’s just be honest with each other. There are way too many romance novels that are filled with cliches. It’s like if you picked up one romance novel you picked up them all. Here’s 8 Romance Novel Cliches I Hope Stay In 2017.

1. Rockstar/Poor Girl

I don’t know how many books that feature a rock star with mommy and daddy issues who hates the world. Think about it for a second. . . What was your last rockstar book? Did he have a damaged heart and swore off love? Did some girl who doesn’t know he’s famous enters his world? Does he love how much his money means nothing to her?

Told you so.

2. The Hoe/The Virgin

For some strange reason or another 2017 seemed to be the year of female virgins. It’s not just that they are virgins – they are virgins in their 20’s! How many 20 something year old female virgins do you know? I don’t know a single one. Y’all might and that’s fine but I don’t.

Again. . .2017 was the year that all of the men, after years of fucking a million women become so obsessed with these “virgins” that they change their hoe like behavior.

Where is the story about a female who has lived her life, fucked who she has wanted to and then meets the guy?

3. Best Friend/Sister

Okay, okay, okay! We get it! Girls have crushes on their brothers friends. For the life of me I can’t understand why it’s never the other way around. Let’s not forget how 2017 best friend/sister stories always made it to where the best friend only notices the girl when she grows boobs or comes back from college.

4. Rich guys marries poor girl for money

There must have been 2,374 books in 2017 where a millionaire or billionaire was going to lose his inheritance unless he gets married. I’m just over it. I need something new.

5. Perfect Guy/Boring Girl

The guy can do no wrong. He’s fantastic yet he falls in love with the most boring girl in history. Get the fuck out of here. Where does that ever really happen?

6. The Girl Who Can’t Look Away Because The Guy Is So Hot

This one is normally coupled with girl not knowing how beautiful she is. She is always sooooooo surprised to find out everyone around her thinks she drop dead gorgeous. But wait, here’s the kicker – she can’t believe a guy like that can like a girl like her. So silly and overused.

7. Position Of Power Over The Female

It’s not just that he has power over her that is the problem – it’s the sexual harassment that exhibits and she just takes it. The worst part is how authors attempt to write a story based on this and make it sexy. There is not one thing sexy about a man groping me or throwing sexual innuendos at me all the time. Not cute, not cute at all.

8. The Best Looking And Rich Brothers

Let’s just keep it real here. The chance of finding 3 brothers who all have abs of steel and that famous “V” line authors love to describe in books is slim to none. To throw some extra unrealalistic bullshit on top is that they are uber rich and live in penthouses.

I’m not saying these cliches should never be used again. I’m only asking that author find a way to take the ordinary to extraordinary. Find a way to make these cliches their own and not a carbon copy of someone else.

One more thing. . . Can men stop picking girls up over their shoulder? It’s silly. Please stop – be yourself.

TTYL, lovers. . .
