4.5 STARS

I had heard the rumors – Verity wasn’t anything like Colleen Hoover’s previous books – so I had to figure this one out for myself. I have read just about every one Colleen Hoover’s books and 9/10 of them I’ve enjoyed.

I’m going to keep this review all the way pretty as that is all I can do with novel such as this one.

First, let us hear from the author. . .

Synopsis

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

************************************************************************

Raw. Gritty. Twisted. Beautiful.

Those a few of the words that come to mind with I think about Verity. I have never read anything by CoHo so bold and fearless. I was impressed to say the least.

Amazing gif
CoHo started out as a self-published author but eventually went on the become a traditionally published author. With Verity, she decieced it was time to come back home to the world of self publishing and put out something for her “ride or die” fans. I am so happy that she took this detour and provided us readers with a story that was beyond the CoHo who focused more on the love stories inside the pages.

Verity does have some romance but it is far from the primary focus and that is where the true beauty lies.

Lowen is hidden, she has no desire to be in the spotlight. Her past makes her this way. If it was up to her she would never interact with society.

. . .I’m invisible. Unimportant. Manhattan is too crowded to give a shit about me, and I love her for it. – Lowen

Jemery is completely broken. He’s hiding from the world just as much as Lowen if now more. That quest alone is one of the main reasons this story pulls at you from it’s core.

It’s what you do when you’ve experienced the worst of the worst. You seek out people like you. . .people worse off than you. . .and you use them to make yourself feel better about the terrible things that have happened to you. – Lowen

dark romance

That’s all I’m giving you. Verity is one of those you can’t tell someone about, there’s no way to convey the message of the story that way. Every person needs to read it for themselves.

Here are the two most important questions. . .

Do I recommend this book? 1,000%

Will I read another book by Colleen Hoover? Do I think vodka is worth a shot? Yep! If CoHo writes it, your girl will read it.

I told you I was going to keep it pretty!

TTYL, lovers!

Hey there! I'm Danielle! I just a girl who loves books. I love books so much that I talk about the stories like they are real. Who knows? Maybe, they are real to me. I do love the book world, it's way better than reality. . .sometimes. . .because. . .I'm also a proud mama bear, wife, and mother!
