The Wives was my first (and last) book by Tarryn Fisher. Her writing isn’t bad by any means. I can tell that she has skills but her style just isn’t for me. I had a lot of trouble connecting with the story.

Unfortunately for me, December Book Of The Month, didn’t have any other books to my liking, which is the only reason I entertained the idea of a Tarryn Fisher book. Plus, I love a little thriller/suspense once in awhile.

I don’t think this review is going to be too messy. I never really know as I don’t plan out my reviews. I just start typing and whatever happens, happens.

The entire synopsis is a LIE!

Unless you’ve never read a good book before you pick this one, and don’t know any better, there is nothing about this book that makes it the most shocking thriller I’ve ever read. I finished this book about a week ago and I’m already starting to forget it.

That statement is the book world’s version of click bait. So annoying.

The Wives by Tarryn Fisher will not go down as one of my best reads of 2019 but it also won’t go down as one of my worsts. The pile it will go in is one of my most forgettable reads of 2019.

Why?

I despise books that lie to get me to read them. Thursday is not one of three wives at all. That’s right, I’m giving it away. I wasn’t going to at first but fuck it. I’m trying to save you from wasting your time.

I find polygamists kind of fascinating. I thought I was going to read a book that really drove into the mindset and the way of life of a poly family. Imagine my disappointment when that wasn’t even the case.

Here’s another lie from the synopsis. . .there’s nothing wrong with the man she married. He actually came off as a good dude.

I HATE BEING LIED TO!

The book started off strong, I was excited. Overtime, Thursday started to irritate the fuck out of me. She was a push over and I couldn’t stand it. She’s also a nurse in the book which made me dislike her more because I’m a nurse and I’ll be damn if I ever let a man have that much power over my emotions.

“What happened to me? How have I become this docile person, living for Thursdays and the love of a man who divides himself so thinly among three women?” – Thursday

There was a slight twist the last few chapters which slightly interesting.

It was cute the way Tarryn Fisher was able to surprise readers every now and then. I enjoyed the little, “ah hah” moments. She was able to pull everything together in the end quite nicely. Her writing talent definitely shined through.

My problem was by that time came around, I already disliked the main character so there was no emotional attachment for me.

How the hell was I supposed to care about a chick who was technically a mistress turned wifey? Granted, I don’t wish ill on the other woman but I’m also not wishing the bitch good luck.

I will say this though. . . I was able to finish the book quite quickly but that may or may not be a good thing. I was on vacation in the Bahamas and didn’t want it looming over my head. I can’t say if I read fast because I enjoyed it or if my bipolar mind needed it cleared out.

Let’s get to the two most important questions. . .

Do I recommend this book? No. I can’t think of anyone I know who would enjoy it.

Will I read another book by this author? No. We are not a good reader/writer mix.

I don’t think that was too messy. I was a little bit pretty. Maybe.
