Hit The Spot (Dirty Deeds #2) by J. Daniels…no! Hell No! Gifs!

⭐️⭐️2 STARS⭐️⭐️

There’s hours of my time that I will never get back.

Now y’all know I normally create graphics for my reviews but I won’t be making any for Hit The Spot by J. Daniels. I feel like I wasted too much time reading the damn book that I’m not going to spend my precious time designing anything. Instead, I’m going to use gifs because they are already out there so… yeah.

I suggest you grab some popcorn because this is about to get real messy, fair warning. You might want to get a drink too, just saying.

Let’s just get into it shall we? We’ll start with a quick word for the author…

Synopsis

Is this love or just a game?

Tori Rivera thinks Jamie McCade is rude, arrogant, and worst of all . . . the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on. His reputation as a player is almost as legendary as his surfing skills. No matter how her body heats up when he’s around, she’s determined not to be another meaningless hookup.

Jamie McCade always gets what he wants. The sickest wave. The hottest women. And Tori, with her long legs and smart mouth, is definitely the hottest one. He knows Tori wants him-hell, most women do-but she won’t admit it. After months of chasing and one unforgettable kiss, it’s time for Jamie to raise the stakes.

Jamie promises that soon Tori won’t just want him in her bed, she’ll be begging for it-and he might be right. Somehow he’s found the spot in her heart that makes her open up like never before. But with all she knows about his past, can she really trust what’s happening between them? Is Jamie playing for keeps or just playing to win?

This book can be read as a stand-alone.
Book 1–Four Letter Word

*******************************************************

Let me start by saying that I wasn’t going to read this book because Four Letter Words (Dirty Deeds #1) sucked balls, but I thought I would give it a go. There were some decent reviews out there for this one, so I hoped J. Daniels would redeem herself in my eyes. Well that didn’t happen.

We were introduced to Jamie and Tori in book one and I fell in love with both of them. I was like, “Yassss, bitch, yassss!” I just knew J. Daniels was going to slay… Ha! The joke was on me because their characters in this book were nothing like they were in book one.

Jamie was still cocky and sexy but he also had a lot of asshole moments. Let’s talk about one…

“Not sure what that has to do with us,” he said, keeping the arrogance, keeping the smirk, and keeping a me like what I’d just shared meant nothing. He shrugged, then continued. “Affects him more than anything. Handle it now or wait, whatever. Just know, once we get started, you need to drop him, babe. I don’t share.” – Jamie

Now this was kind of sexy! The way he mixed cocky and sexy together was EVERYTHING right here.

But then his asshole ways made an appearance. Example – Tori backs out of her parking spot and wasn’t paying attention and accidentally hits him with her car. Just a little tap…

“You crazy-ass bitch. Do not fuckin’ come any closer.”

I flinched, halting my steps. “What? Did you just call me a bitch?”

“Yeah, bitch, I did. You heard me.”

************************************************

“You’re mad I shot you down and bruised your precious ego and now you’r planning on making up lies about me.”

“Bruised my ego? Bitch, I think you did more than that when you ran my ass over.”

He called her a bitch way too many times in my opinion. We would have had a problem if he was talking to me like that. You can play around and call me a bitch all day, everyday. What you won’t do is call me a bitch is a spiteful way, then we have a problem.

At least Brian had some damn sense and could see that she wasn’t actually trying to run him over.

“What the fuck. Who’s side are you on?” I asked, my voice growing louder with edge.

“No one’s. Are you fuckin’ serious? You know I don’t give a fuck” said Brian.

That would have been me. I would not have given a flying fuck about the whole situation because it shouldn’t have been a situation to begin with. Jamie was being so petty and whining like a little girl. I hate men who whine like babies. I was so over it.

Jamie got over it too, finally, when he decided they would make a bet to see who would be begging for sex first. Okay, this was kind of cute, I was feeling it.

Part of his plan to get her to beg for him was to be in her face all the time. He took it upon himself to pop up at her house whenever he damn well pleased. That was still kind of cute but he had to add another asshole moment. Example – When he need to pick up his sister from a bar and decided he was going to take her car…

“Babe, get the fuck over it,” I ordered, watching her eyes flicker wider.

Wait real quick because this is me, Danielle adding a quick word – Did he say he “ordered” her?… He did… Okay… Hell to the NO!

I put my atention back on the road. “If we’re goin’ someplace together, I’m drivin’. Don’t matter whose car it is. We got someplace to go? I’ll get us there. So quit with the attitude and just enjoy my fuckin’ company. It ain’t like I took your ride and left you back at the house. Straight up, though, kinda wishing I would’ve just done that.”

Let us have a moment of silence so I can gather my thoughts and calm the hell down so I don’t hurt this man.

Did this bastard really just say that? Get the fuck out of here!

You’re going to take my car whether I like it or not, and now you wish you would have left me at home.

Y’all have better come get this man before I start cutting off body parts, starting with Mr. Happy.

Last example of Jamie’s “so called” sweetness…

She tells him, “This feels like forever,” and he doesn’t respond so she gets all pissy about it. So when they finally talk about it here’s what he says…

“Tense all night. Worryin’ I wasn’t feelin’ you. That wasn’t the case.” Jamie began to explain. “Just came in a woman for the first time. That woman being’ you. I was processin’ shit.”

WTF! I’m done! I’m going to let you work through that one on your own.

Tori wants to get all upset because he didn’t tell a magazine that he had a girlfriend. This man told you that he doesn’t answer personal questions in interviews, what the fuck are you mad about? J. Daniels could have thought of a better storyline here.

“You’re hurt over somethin’ stupid,” I affirmed. “And I’m not bein’ an asshole. I’m just givin’ it to you straight.” – Jamie

“It’s not about you and him. Not in those interviews,” Brian continued, holding my gaze. “Jamie’s told you how he feels. That’s what matters to him. You knowin’. Your friends, your family, the people you care about. All of us. Christ, we all sure as fuck know. His family. Mine. Everybody in his life, babe. He’s never been quiet about it. And to the people that matter, he never fuckin’ will be. You just gotta decide if that’s enough for you.”

Oh, now you get it! Jamie told your ass the same damn thing 18 million times and you still decided to get in your damn feeling. I can’t deal. She was being #petty

Don’t get me wrong, Jamie has some sweet moments and does several sweet things for her but the way he spoke to her was ridiculous. What’s worse is Tori just took it.

I don’t understand why she would allow that. I don’t understand why J. Daniels is trying to pass off his behavior as cute and sexy. It wasn’t cute. It wasn’t sexy. It was controlling and demeaning.

I like being put in my place just as much as the next women, sometimes that shit is sexy. But Jamie, hell no, he took that shit too far.

Ms. Daniels, I know you took English 101 so please tell me why the grammar in this book is so horrible. Let me give you a few examples so you know what I’m talking about…

“Tense all night. Worryin’ I wasn’t feelin’ you.”

“Know you are, babe,” I murmured. “Don’t need to be, but I feel that.”

“Know what this means to you, so fuckin’ relax.”

This went on and on throughout the book. I just couldn’t deal with it.

I know that my grammar can be all over the place sometimes but I’m not a professional writer. I’m not trying to write a book, I write a book blog. My husband did my English 101 online because I couldn’t be bothered. You are not going to find proper grammar at Pretty Mess Reading.

At the end of it all I found this book to be shit. It had no depth, no real feeling, it’s generic, been there done that, and all around amateur. It was also a waste of my damn time, energy and money. But I am a book blogger so I have to take the good with the bad.

I got real messy on this one so I need to clean up, fix my attitude and get pretty again. Until next time! TTYL!!!

Danielle

Hey there! I'm Danielle! I just a girl who loves books. I love books so much that I talk about the stories like they are real. Who knows? Maybe, they are real to me. I do love the book world, it's way better than reality. . .sometimes. . .because. . .I'm also a proud mama bear, wife, and mother!

  1. This is seriously the best Rant review I’ve ever read. Highest of praise for this review and for your honesty. 🙌 If I ever run another rant contest, you would hands-down win with this. I love the gifs. Starting off with Olivia Pope… I love her! I bet she would’ve “handled” that dude in this book. I was reading those quotes and wanted to kill him. What a piece of work. I’m more than okay with the bad boy who’s rude at first and turns into a seeetheart, but I’m not okay with a guy who talks like that to a woman. And the worst part is she put up with him. The part about him processing. Hell no! I would’ve beat the crap out of him. I don’t blame you for not liking this book at all. Wow! I could feel my blood pressure rising every time I read another line from this jerk. I’ve seen some reviews for the series on Goodreads, but this is the first one I’ve read. I will be staying away from this. Thanks for the warning. I love your review! ❤️

    1. Hahahahahaha!!!!!! I’m glad you like it. Sometimes I worry if they might come off in a bad way and offend people. The whole time I was reading this book I kept rolling my eyes. It was ridiculous. This is not a way I would ever let a man talk to me. I just wanted to punch his face for the entire book. I expected more from J. Daniels.

      1. No way! Trust me people love reading a good rant. I get the most praise for my rants, so I know that people really enjoy them. This review is perfection! 🙂 Even the meanest characters in romance novels always have some form of redemption by the end. He sounds so awful though. I couldn’t see myself rooting for this relationship at all. I’ve never read a book from this author before. I’m just now seeing her books more in my feed. I’m hesitant to try one after reading about this book. Would you recommend any of her other books?

      2. Thank you! That means a lot. 🙂 <3 The Alabama Series was really good. I enjoyed both the H and h in each book. That was what made me fall in love with her writing. It's my favorite series by her. The Sweet Addiction Series was super cute. That's why I had high hopes for this series. I thought Four Letter Word was just a one off book and the next one would be better… I thought wrong.

  2. I couldn’t help but laugh at this. Your rant was perfect. I would’ve hated this book too. No one should act like that. No one should find that crap attractive. In terms of the dialog, if it’s true to the character, it’s all good, but when the guy has the speaking skills of a junior high school student and most likely the intellect to match, I can’t deal with it. I’ll put this on my “never read” list.

  3. Fantastic rant, babe! I love it! 😍

Have you read any Kristen Ashley books. The H sounds like her Unfinished Heroes. I hate to buy this and HATE it, but I’m kind of intrigued. I doubt this will be at the library. Oh well… Fantastic review, doll! xoxo

    1. Thanks TJ! I haven’t read any Kristen Ashley books. I going to have to look into her. Some people did like this book so you never know. I tried to see if I could loan it to you on Amazon but the author disabled that option.

  4. Ok, just pissed my pants reading this review because this was literally me and my girls reading the first book. Now that one was atrocious! Great review, babe! I definitely agree with you, but I’m glad to say I enjoyed this one a lot. But yes, there were def still problems. lol I just tried to talk about the good in this book since I couldn’t bring myself to actually review the first book! 😂😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💁🏽💁🏽💁🏽

      1. LOL I did too! I was skimming and rolling my eyes so hard that I thought they were going to fall outta my head. I wanted to throw my iPad across the room. When I finally finished, it made me slumpy. I’m glad I’m not the only one who had rage at that book! 😂😂🙌🏾🙌🏾
