Synopsis
Life and a dismal last name are the only two things Beyah Grim’s parents ever gave her. After carving her path all on her own, Beyah is well on her way to bigger and better things, thanks to no one but herself. With only two short months separating her from the future she’s built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go during the interim. Forced to reach out to her last resort, Beyah has to spend the remainder of her summer on a peninsula in Texas with a father she barely knows. Beyah’s plan is to keep her head down and let the summer slip by seamlessly, but her new neighbor Samson throws a wrench in that plan.
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface.
She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they’re both drawn to sad things. Which means they’re drawn to each other. With an almost immediate connection too intense for them to continue denying, Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn’t realize is that a rip current is coming, and it’s about to drag her heart out to sea.

Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover has really touched my heart in more ways than one. It puts on display the strength and endurance of a woman. It is the perfect example of how to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back up again after a tragedy.
Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover is told from Beyah’s point of view which adds an element of suspense and mystery our man Samson. I enjoyed this aspect quite a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I love dual points of view novels as well but I truly feel it would have taken away something. It would have lost a wee bit of magic from this beautiful novel.
Beyah has had her entire world taken away the a matter of a day. She needs to decide on the next steps, fast. Those steps lead her on a journey she never expected, or wanted for that matter. A huge part of this new journey brings Samson into her world.
Let me tell you, Beyah is not a fan of Samson. She wants nothing to do with him.
Isn’t that how so many great love start?!
From my heart to yours, this is a great love story!
“If there’s nothin in a heart that can break, why does it feel like mine is going to snap. . .” – Beyah
One of my favorite aspects of Heart Bones isn’t the relationship Beyah finds herself in with Samson but Beyah learning about who she is a person, as a woman. The kind growth that only comes when you have nothing left to give or feel. The way she finds out how durable she is, even through her own faults and weaknesses. Colleen Hoover truly places the reader inside of Beyah’s head to the point of seeing themselves reflected within the pages.
Now for the important questions. . .
