Synopsis

Darlene Montgomery has been to hell and back…more than once. After a stint in jail for drug possession, she is finally clean and ready to start over. Yet another failed relationship is just the motivation she needs to move from New York to San Francisco with the hopes of resurrecting her dance career and discovering that she is more than the sum of her rap sheet. As Darlene struggles in her new city, the last thing she wants is to become entangled with her handsome—but cranky—neighbor and his adorable little girl…

Sawyer Haas is weeks away from finishing law school, but exhaustion, dwindling finances, and the pressure to provide for himself and his daughter, Olivia, are wearing him down. A federal clerkship–a job he desperately needs–awaits him after graduation, but only if he passes the Bar Exam. Sawyer doesn’t have the time or patience for the capricious—if beautiful—dancer who moves into the apartment above his. But Darlene’s easy laugh and cheerful spirit seep into the cracks of his hardened heart, and slowly break down the walls he’s resurrected to keep from being betrayed ever again.

When the parents of Olivia’s absentee mother come to fight for custody, Sawyer could lose everything. To have any chance at happiness, he must trust Darlene, the woman who has somehow found her way past his brittle barbs, and Darlene must decide how much of her own bruised heart she is willing to give to Sawyer and Olivia, especially when the ghosts of her troubled past refuse to stay buried.

I smiled, I laughed, I cried – happy and sad tears – I felt everything.

I’ll start with the beautiful, Darlene. We were first introduced to Darlene in The Butterfly Effect. I must say, I loved her then, but I feel in love with her in Forever Right Now. I connected with her from the very beginning. I didn’t have to warm up to her, I enjoyed her from the first word on.

Darlene is on a journey of self awareness. She is trying to make a better life for herself. She is working to finding her self-worth. With the help of a few supportive people behind her, she takes the leap.

“You deserve to be loved as you are, Darlene. Not in bits and pieces.” – Max

I connected with Darlene on so many levels. My background isn’t squeaky clean, it would seem rather dirty to many people. No one believed in me. I was always known as the fucked up one. Even to this day I am still doubted by many in my family even though I’ve made a great life for myself and my family. To some I’m still, Danielle, the party girl who doesn’t know what to do with herself. Reading Darlene’s words were like putting my own thoughts onto paper for others to understand.

“I will always be an addict even if you put the word ‘recovering’ in front of it. I will always have to work ten times as hard to be trusted, to be trustworthy but that’s the price I have to pay for my mistakes.” –  Darlene

The only difference between Darlene and myself is that I literally don’t give a fuck what others think about me.

Now, Sawyer is a completely different story. It took me a hot second to warm up to the idea of him because Sawyer is the name of my book boyfriend from the Just An Illusion Series by D. Kelly. After that second. . . let me tell you. . . this man is incredible!

On paper, Sawyer had the makings of being a successful lawyer who was set out to conquer the world. Until one day, he became a single father who was fighting for the future of his little girl with everything he had.

On the outside he screamed – “I’m an asshole!” – but the on inside, he screamed – “I’m a lover!” By the end of the book, I wanted to be his lover.

He was always so serious. It was like his face had fight with a smile and decided it didn’t belong. Instead he walked around with a permanent frown unless he was looking at his daughter.

“. . .you can came along and now everything’s different. It’s better. It’s better, Darlene, when I’d sort of given up on being happy.” – Sawyer

The marvelous thing about Darlene was that she never let someone else’s cranky face stop her from being positive. So, Sawyer’s grumpy behavior only served as fuel for Darlene to help him smile. Not to mention this little girl was freaking adorable and no one could pass her up. She made his sullen behavior sexy.

“I wanted to dance with you.”

“I’m no good.”

“I’ll bet that’s not true.”

“I’m pretty sure the only move I could pull off is the dip.”

“A dip is easy. All you have to do is be there for the woman. Hold her. Make sure she doesn’t fall.”

“I want to try.” – Darlene/Sawyer

Forever Right Now is fascinating book that will make you believe that the heart is capable of loving beyond measure and that everyones deserves a second chance.

Do I recommend this book? Very, very much so. It’s a beautiful story.

Will I read another book by Emma Scott? Hell, yeah!

I told you at the beginning that I wasn’t going to be messy and I was not. I really hope you get a chance to read this one. It’s also on Kindle Unlimited.

TTYL, lovers. . .

Follow all things messy. . .

Author Interview with Emma ScottAbout The Author

I write romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. I love to write book lovers; those who have found refuge, companionship, and escape in books, much as we do in real life. I like realism, honesty, authenticity in storytelling. I love to write about enduring love, soul-deep love, in as real a setting as I can make, but with big smooshy HEAs. I believe in diversity, open-mindedness, and inclusion. I like sweetness mixed with steam, love conquering all, and above all, hope. Love always wins.
