Dear (Lying) Book Blogger,

Why are you lying?

I really want to know. No joke, I really do.

When I come to your site I’m looking for an honest opinion, not some shit you just pulled out of your ass.

Dear (Boring) Book Blogger,

Can you please put a little bit of personality into your writing?!?! I want to get to know you just as much as your opinion. It would make you more real.

Dear (Honest) Book Blogger,

You know what I love about you? You not only give me the real deal on a book but you make me feel like I can trust you. I thank you for that.

Dear (Copycat) Book Blogger,

I follow more than one book blog and other book reviews online and know you are stealing others work.

You’re an asshole! Do you know how much time and energy bloggers put into there work? Of course not!  You just steal theirs. Well, let me tell you it takes a good amount of time and you stealing their shit is horrible.

Assholes!

Dear (Ass-kissing) Book Blogger,

Why are you allowing authors and publishing companies to tell you what to post. I don’t come to your blog looking for a summary of something someone sent to you in an email. I come to see what you think.

Trust me when I tell you that they don’t give a shit about you.

Dear Book Blogger,

I want to take this time to say thank you. You make me feel like I’m not alone out there. I honestly feel like I am making friends with you. Maybe we will meet in real life and maybe we won’t but I like you just the same. I follow your blog because you’re awesome and I love your work. If I didn’t I wouldn’t follow you. I may not get a chance to read every post but it’s not because I didn’t want to, I most likely didn’t have the time. I wish I could read more of your posts but my life doesn’t allow me to do so.

I love that you accept my opinion of books even if you don’t agree. You have never made me feel like you are judging me and that means the world to me. I have enough people judging me before that get to know me. You make me feel like my voice matters.

I’m going to end this with thank you to HONEST book bloggers and a fuck you to all the others.

Hey there! I'm Danielle! I just a girl who loves books. I love books so much that I talk about the stories like they are real. Who knows? Maybe, they are real to me. I do love the book world, it's way better than reality. . .sometimes. . .because. . .I'm also a proud mama bear, wife, and mother!

      1. I’m not so sure about that;D but I’m very glad I have you as a blogging friend. You made my day with this post. And it wasn’t the only post of yours that made me laugh out loud. The blogging world would be so much more boring without you.

  1. Totally agree with you! Now the “trick” is to leave an honest review but not bash the author when you did not like the book. My momy raised me right and I always try to be respectful. On the other hand I can’t lie to save my behind (see, polite through and through) so I would never tell I loved a book if that’s not true. What I do is say what I felt, what was missing for me to really enjoy the book but also try to find who might love the book (because we all have different tastes thank God!). This is the same when I’m doing a beta read. I can’t stand liars but I can’t stand people bashing authors, bloggers…either. It is difficult to write a book. I’ve never written one myself so who am I to say this is crap? It’s only if the author really is mocking the reader (it happened once so far with a book written by Laurel K Hamilton as she repeated whole passages several times in the book and the plot was nihil and…well, you felt she was just writing to make money) that I would be really blunt. And I promise I don’t steal other bloggers/reviewers work as I never read other reviews before writing mine. OK I’m stopping here hun as I’ve been long enough. Sorry but I’m chatty ;-)))

  2. LOL. This letter gave me life. LMAO.
That’s why I started blogging. I got tired of blogs with only 4&5star books. I even confronted a blogger and the response was “I Can’t help it if every book I read is 4-5 stars.”
    I quickly hit unsubscribe.
I see said blogger on Goodreads whining about how people downvote their review on Amazon and I think “hmmmm, I wonder why?”

  3. I don’t really care what others say or do as it is out of my control. Anything more becomes my own problem. Your post directly reflects my disappointment with Kirkus, shilling their wares for money. I will say that quite a few authors have totally freaked out on my “honest” assessment of their work. One author wanted to fight me. Too funny.
