Because the book world is so different from my real life, I want everything perfect. I’m not a shallow person (all the time) but I want someone nice to look at.
- Therefore, my number 1 MUST HAVE is a. . .
. . .Sexy, stop me dead in my tracks man.
I want a man who takes care of himself. I want a 6 to 8 pack. I need that sexy “V” that leads down to Mr. Happy. He needs to have style. It doesn’t have to be anything particular but it has to be individual to him. He must own it! I want to be able smell the sexy. He has to have a manly scent. If you smell amazing. He also must have flaws. If he seems too perfect, I get bored.
Let me now start on the not so shallow MUST HAVES
- My number 2 MUST HAVE is a. . .
. . .Captivating story.
I need well thought out characters with a real in-depth conflict. I want secrets and lies that need to be revealed. Sub plots always keep the story more interesting. The romance has to make sense and not be cheesy. I hate cheesy, cliche romances. It has to be compelling, new, original, and unpredictable. Take me to a story where I’m believing something, then reveal a clue that might be something else. Keep me guessing and thinking.
- My number 3 MUST HAVE is a. . .
. . .Connection to the main characters.
I need to feel what they feel, know what they know, love like they do. I need to be them or at least find a bit of them in me. When I’m reading a 5 STAR book, I’m connecting. I cannot stress enough how much I need attach their feelings to my own.
- My number 4 MUST HAVE is. . .
. . .Honesty.
Does the author come across as honest? What do I mean by this? I need to feel like the author is being genuine to who they are. I don’t want to read a book like someone’s book, I want to read their book. I don’t want a replica of 50 Shades of Grey – which is getting old BTW. More than that I need an honest character, not one I can’t trust. It’s fundamental to a good book to believe your main character.
- My number 5 MUST HAVE it the. . .
. . .Feels.
Give me the feels! Make me want more! Make me beg for more!
Those are my must haves. Feel free to leave some of yours in the comments. Maybe we can start a revolution and help create 5 STAR reads everywhere. Who knows? Maybe we all end up helping an author out.
TTYL, lovers. . .
Stalk all things messy…

I agree with all of your points they make the best books! But if I was to rate my reads as THE best they have to keep me reading, like can’t put it down and never wanting it to end! I feel the characters and story line so much that I want to keep reading them and never want it to be over! Those are the BEST reads! Great post!
We think alike on this topic here! When I finish a 5 STAR book I always feel like I’m missing someone. It’s like my best friend is gone. 🙁
Oh I totally agree! Then I stalk all books from that author hoping that all their writting is the same and I’ll get another read just like it! Some times this works others not so much haha
Sounds about right! I’m quick to be in an authors email or DM asking them more about the character and begging for their next book. I’m sure I come across crazy ass hell sometimes.
Totally agree and thanks for the Charlie Hunnam gif! Yummy!
I wish my husband looked like him everyday! 🤣😂🤣😂
