Punk 57 Penelope Douglas

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok….

….Let’s do this

Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas was pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Penelope did her thing!!! Definitely one of the best contemporary romance authors out, seriously.

I have to warn you about the names so you don’t get confused during messy review.

Misha is the boy. Ryen is the girl….Gotta it? Perfect.

Now for the summary from the author….

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

Misha

I can’t help but smile at the words in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…

And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F*ck it. I need to meet her.

I just don’t expect to hate what I find.

Ryen

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

Now let’s get messy….

This book had me from the first chapter, which is rare.

Misha is a singer/song writer who isn’t looking for fortune and fame but just to write and express himself.

Ryen is like the rest of us when we were teenagers. She’s unsure of herself and doesn’t know where she fits in. She wants to love and accepted, even though she doesn’t know who she is.

I thought Ryen was a bitch for a good while in the beginning of the book but then I had to step back and remember, “She’s just a teenager.” How many of us were bitches when we were in our teens……….me, me, me, me, me.

So how can I judge her? I can’t.

Misha and Ryen have been pen pals since the 5th grade and now they’re in their senior year of high school. They live 30 mins or so away from each other but they never met. Normally shit like this pisses me off because it’s so unrealistic but it works for this book and feels believable. That means this book is fucking good.

Here’s where I’m going to get a wee bit more messy….

Misha.

I love romance novels. I love book boyfriends. Romance novels, book boyfriends – that’s my thing. How in the hell am I supposed to have a high school book boyfriend? I’m 32 years old!!! That’s nasty and creepy….(throw up).

…………………………………………………….no book boyfriend for me 😦

So, I had to switch gears, move my brain and mindset around to get rid of that idea to read this book and truly enjoy it. And to my wonderful surprised, I was able to do so. Thank fuck for that.

….Don’t judge me ok? I really thought about whether or not to include this in my blog.

But my blog is for fun and my truth, so here it is….

Where the fuck was I at in high school?

When did 18 year olds learn how to actually fuck?

I have never had sex with an 18 year old, even in high school.

But I friends who were and from what they told me, 18 year olds can’t fuck.

Was I missing out or is this where someone tells me?….Bitch, this is a book and 18 year olds really can’t fuck.

Because from what I read, Misha was doing the damn thing. Go Misha! And Ryen, you’re a lucky bitch. Yassssssss!

Misha suffers a terrible loss and goes off to get closure and tie up a few loose ends before he plans on leaving the life he knows behind. He didn’t expect Ryen to change his plans but he sure as hell was happy when she did. Because Misha didn’t expect for Ryen to change everything, he wasn’t prepared for the consequences that would occur when she did.

Just read the book. It’s really fucking good! 😝
