10 Reasons Why Lucy Could Not Be My Friend – Friction by Emily Snow

⭐⭐⭐3 STARS⭐⭐⭐

This is going to be real fucking messy because Lucy got on my damn nerves. The girl didn’t have one backbone in her body. Her insecurities were killing me! I just want want to explain to her the meaning of self-esteem. (Please see video at the end for clarification.)

Friction by Emily Snow, was my first book by this author and she made me want to pull my fucking hair out. Which by the way should prove how frustrating this book was because I spend a shit ton of money on my hair. 🤑 So, I’m not in a rush to pick up another one of her books at all.

Because I feel like being nice, I’ll let the author share a quick word…

Synopsis

Former overachiever Lucy WillIams sucks at adulting.

Recent divorce, check.

Pending lawsuit, check.

A move back to Boston to live with her mother, triple check.

It can’t get much worse, right?

When she starts her new marketing job at EXtreme Effects, she’s positive shit’s stopped hitting the fan. Sure, what she’s advertising is a little … unorthodox, but it pays the bills. And since she’s seconds away from becoming Lucy Williams: Wednesday Night Bingo Enthusiast, she needs money to get the hell out of her mother’s house.

The only problem is her boss, Mr. Extreme himself: Jace Exley. He’s everything any sane woman dreams of—alpha, successful, ridiculously gorgeous. He’s also Lucy’s worst nightmare. Because like every overachiever, she has that underachiever she brushed off. The slacker who, once upon a time ago, was the object of her dirtiest schoolgirl fantasies.

Jace Exley—with his sarcastic smirk and delicious accent—just happens to be that guy.

And the friction between them?

Well, that’s the only adulting Lucy seems to be winning at.

Now let’s get into why I could never be friends with this chick…

Don’t get me wrong, she was sweet and everything, I just couldn’t be her friend in real life – or book life to be honest.

1. Her constant need to apologize.

Every other paragraph was her saying sorry for something she didn’t need to apologize for. Jace was always having to tell her to stop apologizing but she kept doing it. Girl, you are 27 years old, stop saying sorry for stupid shit. She was getting on my last nerve with that shit.

2. She was too much of a prude.

Friendship requirement – you can not act like a scared little girl because saw some guy getting his dick sucked. I mean, it’s not that serious.

3. She acts like a high school girl with a crush.

Don’t get me wrong, every female has that one guy that takes her back to acting like a school girl, but not all the time. You can’t be scared to talk to your boss because you crush on him. You can’t always stumble over yourself when he comes into the room. That’s childish.

4. She’s a runner.

I can’t rock with a chick who always runs away because her crush says he likes you too. This is Lucy… OMG! Jace said he wants to fuck me. I must now run away and hide because he likes me too. – Girl bye! He said said he wants to fuck you, tell him you want to fuck him too. Tell him that you are a grown woman and can handle him.

5. She fidgets to damn much.

When ever Jace would make any type of sexual reference the would put her head down and fidget with her clothes or fingers. You are too grown for that shit. Why does the topic of sex make you act like an 11 year old girl?

6. She never stood up for herself.

When it came to her ex-husband – this man cheated on her with another man and instead of fighting for what you deserve as far as the company they started together…. she runs home to mommy. Really? When Jace fired her, she didn’t even put up a real fight. She just turned around, cried and left.

7. She’s easily manipulated.

Let me start this by saying – the admits this herself. Even she knows she’s weak. Her ex tells her she a lously lay and she’s just like, “Oh, that must be true.” Jace tells he to jump and she asks, how high.

8. She gives men too much power over her.

Whenever Jace tells her that they can’t be together, she just takes it. If Jace says he’s going to kiss her, she lets him. If Jace says he can’t kiss her, she just accepts it. She sits around and waits for him to tell her what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.

9. She’s scared of her mother.

Lucy, my love, you are too old to be scared to tell your mother where you work. You need to be a grown up, put your big girl panties on and own what the fuck you do. The crazy part was when her mother found out she was marketing sex toys she not even mad at that part, she’s more hurt that Lucy didn’t tell her.

Last but not least….

10. The girl can’t handle her liquor.

If you are out with me and after 3 shots you start making stupid decisions, I just can’t with you. I need my friends to know that can’t take 3 shot of tequila in 10 mins. I need you to pace yourself. If we are going out than I need you to be able to hang all night. I am 33 years old, which is too damn old to be acting like a 21 year old who hasn’t learned the rules of drinking. What the heel would I look like dragging a 27 year old woman home after 3 shots.

Her error, that occurred after she drank too much was so careless. Why the fuck did she take that damn picture. Stupid. I just can’t with her.

To be fair, Emily Snow did warn me the the synopsis that Luck “sucks at adulting” but damn, I didn’t realize that meant she acted like a child.

This book wasn’t my cup of tea. When I read novels, I base my feelings on whether or not the guy can be my book boyfriend and if the girl can be my book friend. Now Jace can be my book boyfriend all day everyday. Lucy… well… she has to go. I can’t stand a weak female with zero self-esteem. All my girlfriends believe they are the shit, even if they are not. But that’s what I love about them. You can sit here and tell me and my girlfriends that we are the ugliest females in the world and we will look at you like you’re crazy.

You’re opinion of us – we don’t give a fuck.

Lucy… yeah… you’re opinion of her is very important. I don’t know why. She was crazy weak.

The book isn’t horrible. Just to put that out there.

Would I recommend this book? Probably not. Mostly because after today, I won’t remember this book. It’s not that important.

It’s time for me to get pretty again! Really, it is. I have to get dressed and head out to my real job – the one that pays my bills. TTYL!

In the words of Kat Williams…

  1. In the defense of the self esteem issue, without having read this book, nor knowing the FMC’s backstory, sometimes people do have serious issues with their self confidence. But I agree, not having a backbone is a turnoff.

    1. Very good point. I do agree with you 100% there. I have my husband read my posts before I publish them and he said the same thing. He’s thinks I’m a bit harsh 😬 I can say, if she didn’t seem so weak all the time, I would have enjoyed it more.

      1. Yeah, if you ever read my books, I hope my FMC doesn’t seem weak, but I tried to make her weaknesses directly tied to her past, and she’s fully capable of stepping up when she needs to. 😊

      2. I thought your FMC was complex, never weak. She had her moments like every woman in the world, including me. Plus, I found her faults to be the most beautiful things about her. She just loved deeply. If that makes sense. There’s a major difference from yours and this book. This girl was simple.

  2. I love the review hun! Not all her quirks deter me but most. Terrific honest review! <3
